From the sea, the development along the Kyrenia (Girne) waterfront is visible: light-coloured multi-storey hotel buildings, palm trees, and a rocky coastline. Behind the city rise the dark slopes of the Kyrenia Mountains (Beşparmak), partly veiled by a light haze.
